The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has urged greater investment in digital infrastructure to support the country’s expanding digital economy. Dr Aminu Maida, the NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the need for increased public and private sector involvement in telecommunications infrastructure. This call comes as Nigeria continues to grow its digital presence, with broadband expansion and improved service quality seen as key to economic development.
The NCC highlighted that better infrastructure will not only enhance internet access but also create a more competitive environment for businesses. This push aligns with broader government goals to position Nigeria as a regional leader in technology and innovation. The regulator stressed that collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to meet the rising demand for digital services.
Investment in digital infrastructure is also seen as a way to reduce the digital divide and improve connectivity across the country. While the NCC has outlined plans for expansion, the success of these initiatives will depend on sustained investment and policy support. The call for increased funding reflects the growing importance of the digital sector in Nigeria’s economic strategy.
