Nigeria has officially joined a global pact that standardizes measurement practices across nations. The country signed the Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the International Committee for Weights and Measures, known as CIPM MRA, in France. This agreement allows Nigerian laboratories to be recognized internationally for their accuracy in measurements.

The signing took place at an international event where representatives from various countries gathered to formalize the agreement. Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, signed on behalf of the country. The move is expected to enhance Nigeria’s credibility in scientific and industrial fields.

This pact is part of a broader effort to harmonize measurement standards globally. It ensures that measurements taken in one country are accepted as valid in others, facilitating trade, research, and technical cooperation. Nigeria’s participation marks a significant step in aligning its national standards with international benchmarks. The agreement was signed in France, where the international committee oversees such global standards.
