A 26-year-old Nigerian international student, Obanyeli Jesse Chima, died following an asthma attack while preparing to celebrate his birthday with friends in London. The incident occurred as he was getting ready for the party, according to local media reports. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Chima was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Chima was a student in London, studying abroad. Friends confirmed that the birthday celebration was planned for the evening of October 15, 2026. The attack happened shortly before the gathering, with witnesses reporting that Chima had difficulty breathing and collapsed. Paramedics arrived quickly but were unable to revive him.
This is the second known death of a Nigerian student in London this year. In March 2026, another student, Chukwuemeka Nwosu, died from a severe allergic reaction during a campus event. Both cases have raised concerns about health preparedness among international students in the UK.
The incident highlights the importance of emergency response systems for students living abroad. Health officials in London have urged universities and host families to ensure that students with chronic conditions have access to necessary medical support. Chima’s family has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
