A Polish man opened fire in the heart of Krakow’s Main Square on Saturday, killing six people and wounding at least 15 before being shot by police. The suspect, a 24-year-old Polish national, was believed to have been inspired by far-right ideologies, according to authorities. The attack, which took place in a busy tourist area, has shocked the city and raised concerns about rising extremism.
The victim list includes one British national and three Polish citizens, with two victims still unidentified. Police confirmed the British victim was among those killed. The suspect, who was armed with a gun, was apprehended after a confrontation with officers. Authorities described the incident as an “act of terror.”
This is not the first time far-right violence has targeted public spaces in Poland. In 2021, a similar attack in the city of Wrocław left three people dead. The current incident has sparked renewed debate about security measures and the spread of extremist views in the country. The Polish government has called for increased vigilance and tighter controls on weapons.
