Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of violating a proposed energy ceasefire announced by former US President Donald Trump. The accusation comes as Kyiv reports ongoing Russian strikes on energy infrastructure despite the unilateral halt to attacks.
Zelensky stated that Russia has not respected the ceasefire, which was intended to protect Ukraine’s energy systems. Ukrainian officials confirmed that Russian forces have continued targeting energy facilities, undermining the agreement. The Kremlin has rejected Zelensky’s call for a 60-day ceasefire, insisting instead on a long-term peace deal.
The energy ceasefire was part of a broader diplomatic effort to ease tensions following the war in Ukraine. However, the Trump-Putin deal has drawn criticism from the European Union, which views it as damaging to transatlantic unity. The EU has announced additional sanctions against Russia’s military industrial complex, citing concerns over the agreement.
The conflict has seen repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, with both sides accusing each other of escalating hostilities. The current situation highlights the ongoing challenges in achieving a lasting peace. The EU remains committed to its sanctions policy, while Ukraine continues to seek international support for its security.
