A 34-year-old Ugandan woman was arrested in Nigeria after customs officials discovered 87 wraps of cocaine during a routine check. The woman, identified as Ms. Farida Nansubuga, had traveled to Lagos with members of her church for a spiritual renewal session. Authorities stated she was detained when officials found the drugs during a search of her belongings.

The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) confirmed the arrest, noting that the woman had no prior criminal record. The seized drugs are currently under investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed the exact value of the cocaine or the intended destination of the drugs.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of cross-border drug trafficking in the region. Nigeria has long been a transit point for illicit narcotics moving between West and East Africa. Law enforcement agencies have increased efforts to intercept such activities, particularly at major ports and airports. The case also underscores the role of religious groups in facilitating illegal activities, despite their public focus on spiritual matters.

The NDLEA has urged the public to report suspicious activities and emphasized the need for community cooperation in combating drug-related crimes. The case is expected to be presented before a magistrate court for further legal proceedings.
