A Learjet crashed in Florida, linked to a prior air traffic control warning. The plane, which crashed in January 2024, had been reported to air traffic control months earlier. Audio from that incident shows a controller challenging pilots after they described turbulence as “moderate chop.” The pilots said they could not keep the aircraft steady.

The Federal Aviation Administration is reviewing the incident. The crash killed four people, including the pilot and three passengers. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause.

This is not the first time turbulence has been a factor in aviation incidents. In 2022, a similar situation led to a near-miss over Texas. The FAA has since issued new guidelines for handling turbulence reports. The current case highlights ongoing concerns about pilot communication and air traffic control protocols.
