A hiker in his 40s died after falling from a 2,000ft ridge on Blencathra in the Lake District. The incident occurred on Thursday at around 2pm when the man slipped while crossing Sharp Edge in Cumbria. Emergency services deployed a helicopter from the North West Ambulance Service to rescue him. Despite efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident took place on a popular hiking trail known for its challenging terrain. Local authorities have confirmed the area is marked with warning signs, but no official statement has been released regarding the incident. The hiker’s identity has not been disclosed.
This is the second fatality on the trail this year. In March, a 32-year-old woman died after a similar fall. Both incidents have raised concerns about safety on the route. The Lake District National Park Authority is expected to review safety measures in the coming weeks.
