Milford is set to become one of 26 towns participating in a national initiative aimed at repurposing vacant shops and revitalising town centres. The programme, proposed by Junior Minister Alan Dillon, will connect empty premises with local businesses in need of space. The initiative, named ‘Vacant to Vibrant’, seeks to stimulate economic activity and improve the urban landscape by encouraging the reuse of underutilised commercial properties.

The scheme will require local councils and enterprise offices to identify vacant shops and match them with suitable businesses. This includes small enterprises, service providers, and community-focused organisations. The goal is to create a more dynamic and economically viable town centre by reducing the number of empty storefronts.

The ‘Vacant to Vibrant’ programme follows a growing trend of urban revitalisation efforts across the country. Similar initiatives have been launched in other regions, with positive outcomes reported in terms of job creation and increased foot traffic in town centres. The inclusion of Milford in this programme reflects a broader strategy to address the issue of commercial property vacancies and promote sustainable local economic development.
