Police in the UK have introduced a strict 7-hour rule for setting off fireworks during Bonfire Night 2026. The new regulation aims to address growing concerns over noise pollution and public disturbance.
The rule, enforced by local authorities, restricts the time period during which fireworks can be legally set off to between 18:00 and 25:00 local time. This change comes after reports of increased complaints from residents in urban and suburban areas.
Authorities have emphasized that the new time limit is designed to balance traditional celebrations with community well-being. Fireworks displays must now adhere to this schedule, with no exceptions allowed. Violators face hefty fines, with penalties reaching up to £1,000 per incident.
Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, is traditionally celebrated on November 5th. The event has long been associated with fireworks, but recent years have seen a rise in noise-related complaints. Local councils have cited a 30% increase in noise complaints since 2023 as a key factor in implementing the new rule.
This marks the first time the UK has imposed a nationwide time restriction on fireworks for a public holiday. The move reflects a broader trend toward stricter regulation of loud public events in response to community concerns.
